The Rushden Echo 30th July 1915, transcribed by Kay Collins
Wedding - Denton & Burton

The marriage took place at the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, on Saturday, by the Rev. H. J. Horn, of Miss Nellie Burton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Burton, of 26, Kings-road, Rushden, and Mr. Robert Denton, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Denton, of 59, Queen-street, Rushden.

The bride was given away by her father, and was tastefully gowned in white silk crepe de chine trimmed lace and insertion with satin belt and orange blossom. She wore a white Tagel hat with ostrich feather, and carried a shower bouquet of lilies, carnations, and lilies-of-the-valley.

There were five bridesmaids–Miss A. Denton (sister of the bridegroom), Miss W. Andrews, and the little Misses Mabel Wright and Betty Whitbread (nieces of the bridegroom) and Winnie Sherwood (cousin of the bride).

Misses Denton and Andrews wore white voile dresses trimmed with pillow lace and floral design waist belts, with pale pink silk hats covered with black lace. The little bridesmaids were daintily attired in pale pink silk dresses prettily smocked. Their hats were pink and white with ribbon streamers, and were lined with fine lace and small roses. They carried baskets of pink and white sweet peas tied with white ribbons, and the elder bridesmaids carried bouquets of the same flowers.

The duties of best man were ably discharged by Mr. J. Webster, and the groomsman was Corpl. C. Brudenell.

As the guests assembled at the church, suitable music was played on the organ by Mr J. L. Clipson, A.R.C.O., and as Mr. and Mrs. Denton left the church he contributed the “Wedding march”.

A reception at the Co-operative Hall, where about 40 guests assembled, followed the ceremony.
