Military Weddings at Rushden

COOK – BIRD

A military wedding took place at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, on Tuesday, the contracting parties being Miss Frances Ellen Bird, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Bird, of 55, Little-street, Rushden, and Lance-Corpl. T. Cook, of the 5th Northants.

MILLARD – WILLMOTT

A very pretty wedding took place at St. Mary’s Parish Church, Rushden, on Saturday, Pte. George Walter Millard, second son of Mr. and Mrs. V. Millard, of 41, Scarborough-street, Irthlingborough, being married to Miss Hilda Willmott, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Willmott, of 16, East-Grove, Rushden.

The bride was given away by her father and was attired in cream coplinde soir with coatee and spotted net and ninon sleeves and vest; she wore a bridal fall kindly lent by a friend, and carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and maiden-hair fern, the gift of the bridegroom.

The bridesmaids were Miss Elsie Mabel Willmott, sister of the bride, and Miss Minnie Taffs, of Kettering, friend of the bride. They were dressed in electric blue shot silk with spotted net and ninon sleeves and vest and wore large black hats trimmed with flowers and velvet ribbon; they carried bouquets, the gift of the bridegroom, and wore gold brooches, also the gift of the bridegroom. Mr. Ernest Millard acted as best man.

The reception was held at the bride’s home, the guests numbering about 40.

The bride and bridegroom received a great number of handsome and useful presents, as follow:-

Pte. V. Millard (brother) – six sitting room chairs and arm chair to match.

Miss M. Taffs – white damask tablecloth.

Master M. Willmott – pair of brass candlesticks.

Master A. Millard and friend – dinner cruet.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Jackson – pair of bath tins.

Mr., Mrs. E., and Miss F. Langford and Mr. E. Green – Pedestals and brass pot.

Master R. Willmott and Master F. Millard – silver top jam jar.

Mr. and Mrs. W. Major – six silver dessert spoons.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Smart – plant pot.

Mr. and Mrs. G. Jones – white damask table cloth.

Miss F. Willmott – set of jugs.

Miss M. Fountain, blind cousin of the bride – hand-made basket.

Miss N. Fountain – silver jam spoon.

Mr. and Mrs. F. Taffs – white damask table cloth.

Miss W. Savage – silver jam dish.

Miss M. Foster – pair of towels.

Miss G. Millard – chair back cover.

Miss N. Cross – pudding spoon.

Miss K. and Master C. Willmott – silver top salt dredge.

Miss J. Hind – cheese dish.

Miss E. Millard and Miss M. Millard – pair of fancy plates.

Misses L. and O. Taffs – pair of fruit dishes.

Knight and Lawrence’s girls, where the bride was employed – white damask table cloth and wine glasses.
