The marriage took place at the Independent Wesleyan Church, High Street, Rushden, on Wednesday, of Miss Hilda Brawn, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Brawn, of the Headlands, Rushden, and Mr. Arthur Codgbrook, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Codgbrook, of Berkhampstead. The Rev. C. J. Keeler officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, was tastefully attired in ivy crepe de chine over silk, trimmed with a fine lace fichu finished with orange blossom. She also wore a bridal veil and wreath of orange blossom, kindly lent by Mrs. C. G. Ward. Her bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom, consisted of white carnations, roses and heather. There were three bridesmaids – Misses Elsie Brawn (sister of the bride), Mina Bunting, and Nancie Merriman, and a little flower girl, Miss Hilda Ward. The chief bridesmaid wore a dress of pale pink liberty crepe de chine with vest and sleeves of cream net, with a hat of nigger brown velour. Misses Bunting, Merriman and Ward wore dainty dresses of cream net over white satin with pink sashes and mob caps of cream net. They all carried pink carnations and wore gold brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. Mr. L. Brawn discharged the duties of best man. The service was fully choral, the hymns being “O perfect Love” and “Lead us, heavenly Father,” Mrs. R. Denton presiding at the organ.
Subsequent to the ceremony a reception was held in the Queen-street schools, and later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Codgbrook left by motor car for Northampton, en route for the Lake District, where the honeymoon is being spent. The bride has for many years been a Sunday school teacher and active worker in connection with the Independent Wesleyan Church at Rushden, and the bridegroom, who was formerly employed by the Rushden Gas Co. during his residence in Rushden, took an active interest in the same church.
Mr. and Mrs. Codgbrook were the recipients of many costly and useful wedding gifts.
