The Rushden Echo and Argus, 25th May, 1951, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr. George Childs - Miss Ada Coles
Rushden Golden Wedding
On May 25th, 1901, Miss Ada Coles, of Wellingborough, was married to Mr. George Childs, of Rushden, at Wellingborough Parish Church. To-day (Friday), 50 years later, Mr. and Mrs. Childs can look round their little home at 20, South Terrace, Rushden, with pride, but still with a faint nostalgia for “those good old days.”

At the time of the wedding Mrs. Childs was 20 and her husband 19. Mr. Childs still goes to work regularly, being in the lasting department of Messrs. Bignells Ltd., Mrs. Childs also worked at the same factory until she retired at 65.

The are both in excellent health, and Mrs. Childs does most of the housework herself, taking time off every now and then, she says, to have a look at the newspapers, that being her favourite type of reading. She and her husband both like to listen to the radio, and Mr. Childs occasionally goes to the cinema. He is also a member of the Band Club.

Four of their six children are still alive and on Saturday, at the home of their youngest daughter, Mrs. J. Bayes, of 55, Duck Street, Rushden, there will be a party in honour of the anniversary.
