Among 90 guests who celebrated Miss Margaret Chapman’s 21st birthday at Rushden on Saturday none was more welcome or more happy to attend than five London friends, who spent many weekends at Miss Chapman’s home during the war. Miss Chapman is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Chapman, 29 Crabb-street, Rushden, who gave war-time hospitality to several evacuees and relatives who came on frequent visits.
The birthday party was at the Masonic Hall where tea was served and Margaret cut a large iced cake. Mr. Chapman welcomed the guests and Mr. Stanley Bright, of Chingford, proposed a toast to Miss Chapman. During a programme of games and dancing there were songs by Miss Beryl Cook, humorous songs by Mrs. Barwell, of Kettering, and monologues by Mr. Charles Jones, who was the M.C. Miss Payne was the pianist.
