A Holiday Wedding
Marriage of Popular Rushden Manageress
On Tuesday morning, at Holy Trinity church Yeovil, Somerset, Miss Gladys Ethel Clayton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clayton, Moor Road, Rushden, was wedded to Mr. Ernest Charles Catling, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Catling, Newton Road, Rushden. The plans for the wedding – which took place by special licence – had been kept a close secret and only a few near relatives and close friends of the contracting parties knew the date and place of the ceremony. Mr. Catling and the lady now his wife were married while on holiday, for they began a motoring tour of Devonshire on September 2nd.

Both bride and bridegroom are widely known and popular in Rushden and the district. The bride is the manageress of the Royal Theatre, Rushden, and is one of the most interesting personalities in the …., for when still in her teens she was entrusted with the management of the “Royal” and has since… …. films for numerous cinemas. She is a clever business woman and holds the attention of every member of her staff. Mr. Catling is linked up with the boot and leather industries.
Tuesday’s quiet ceremony was conducted by the Rev. John Lumsdon, Vicar of Holy Trinity. Miss Kitty Clarke, of Kettering (friend of the bride) was the only bridesmaid and the bride was given away by her mother.
The honeymoon is taking the form of a continuation of the motoring tour.
