The Rushden Echo and Argus, June 9th 1944, transcribed by Kay Collins.
Carter - Evans

A large company attended Rushden Congregational Church on Saturday afternoon for the wedding of Miss, Joyce Mary Evans, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Evans, of 7, Winchester-road, Rushden, and Corpl. Kenneth Victor Carter, R.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. V. H. Carter, of the Boat House, Trowlock Island, Teddington, Middlesex.

The Rev. Fred Stafford, minister of Wellingborough High-street Congregational Church, conducted the service.

Wearing a gown of white silk taffeta, a long veil with orange blossom headdress, and white silk gloves, the bride was given away by her father. She carried cream roses and had a diamante necklace which was a gift from the bridegroom.

The chief bridesmaid. Miss Violet Tutin, of Nottingham, wore mauve taffeta, trimmed with lace, and a short head veil. Her assistant, Miss Daphne Adams, of Hampton Wick, Surrey, was similarly attired, but in pink. Each had a bouquet of pink carnations.

Mr. Dennis Carter, of Teddington (brother of the bridegroom) was best man, and Mr. L. V. Elliott played the organ, the music including some Welsh airs. Hymns chosen by the bride were "How welcome was the call" and "All-Wise, All-Great, Whose ancient plan."

Among the speakers at the reception which followed in the main schoolroom was the Rev. Fred Stafford, who offered congratulations on behalf of the Congregational Church and Sunday School, where the bride is a teacher. Several friends had given materials for a large iced cake which was made by Mrs. Pogson.

Later in the evening Cpl. and Mrs. Carter went to London for the honeymoon, the bride travelling in a pale blue silk dress, fawn jigger coat, nigger brown shoes and gloves. The wedding presents included cheques to the value of £22 and many useful household gifts.

The couple will make their home at 7, Winchester-road, Rushden.

Messrs. Wadsworth Bros, supplied cars for the wedding.
