Bayes - Clifton
Mr. John Bayes Marries Fellow Sunday School Worker

Mr. John Smith Bayes, the popular Rushden baritone singer and choirmaster of the Park-road Baptist Church, was married at that church yesterday morning (Thursday) by the Rev. T. W. Gill, of Fulham, and formerly of Rushden. The bride was Miss Iris Ellen Clifton, who is a member of the Rushden Ladies' Hockey Club and in company with the bridegroom, is a member of the Baptist Recreation Club and a Sunday School worker.

Mr. Bayes is the youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. F. Bayes, 49, Park-road, Rushden, and the bride is the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. Clifton, of "Fieldway,'' Wymington-road, Rushden. The church was decorated with golden roses, and a large company attended.

The bride was tastefully attired in acream patterned brocade dress withveil, gold headdress and gold kidshoes. She carried a sheaf of cream rosebuds and wore a gold bracelet. Her attendants were Miss Molly Cliff (Leicester), Miss Alice Willmott (Rushden), and Miss Rita Clifton (Rushden), all wearing gold satin dresses with maroon velvet sashes, maroon velvet headdresses and gold shoes. Their bouquets consisted of golden roses, and their sashes were fastened with garnet stone clusters. The giver of the bride was her father, the best man being Mr. F. Durham.

At the organ was Mr. Cyril Groom, A.R.C.O., who played Wagner's "Bridal March" and Mendelssohn's "Wedding March." The hymns were "What purpose burns within the hearts?" and "In Heavenly Love Abiding."

There was a reception in the choir vestry, and after this the bride and bridegroom left for the South Coast, where they are spending their honeymoon. For travelling the bride wore an apple preen costume, nigger hat and nigger suede shoes.

Gifts included an inscribed oak clock to the bridegroom from members of the choir, cutlery from the Ladies' Hockey Club, and an oak table from the bridegroom's employees.

Mr. and Mrs. Bayes will reside at 89, Park-road, Rushden.
