A wedding of great interest to members of the Rushden Park Road Baptist Church took place there on Wednesday morning, when Miss Dora May Clark, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J W Clark, of 89, Duck Street, became the wife of Mr George Ernest Bayes, fifth son of the late Mr W F Bayes and of Mrs Bayes of 49 Park Road.
The bridegroom takes a prominent part in Baptist activities as assistant secretary of the Church, secretary of the Recreation Club and teacher in the Sunday School. The bride also teaches in the school, is a member of the choir, and is known throughout the district as a talented soprano soloist.
 There was a large congregation for the wedding ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev T W Gill. Mr Cyril Groom ARCO, played organ music and the hymns were “Praise my Soul the King of Heaven” and “Now thank we all our God”
The bride, whose father gave her away, was attired in cream satin, with train veil and orange blossom, and carried a bouquet of red roses. Her jewellery was a string of blister pearls.
Miss Winifred Willmott and Miss Vera Campion, both of Rushden, were the bridesmaids. Dressed in green floral georgette, and wearing green necklets, they held bouquets of cream roses. The best man was Mr John S Bayes, brother of the bridegroom, and the ushers were Mr H Clark (brother of the bride) and Mr R Hunt.
Following a reception in the Choir Vestry, Mr and Mrs Bayes left for a honeymoon in Cornwall. On their return they will reside at “Woodlands,” Wymington Road, Rushden. Their many presents include a mirror from the girls at the CWS factory, an inscribed barometer from the Baptist Recreation Club, a silver cake stand from the Sunday School teachers, and a biscuit barrel from the Young Women’s Bible Class.
