The Rushden Echo & Argus, 20th August, 1943, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. T. W. Bailey
Family Record of Teaching

The Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Watts Bailey, of 110, Washbrook-road, Rushden, was celebrated on August 6th.

Married on August 6th, 1893, at the Congregational Church, Rugby, by the Rev. Watts Smyrk, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey have had nine children – three girls and six boys – of whom Thomas, the eldest, was killed in the Great War. They have 10 grandchildren, the eldest boy, Thomas, serving in the Royal Navy. The youngest son, Geoffrey, is in the R.A.F.

Mrs. Bailey (nee Catherine Agnes Favell) has two brothers living at Irthlingborough, Walter and Arthur, both of whom are closely connected with the Oddfellows. Her father, Thomas Favell, was a greatly loved character in Irthlingborough, and lived to the good old age of 93. Mrs. Bailey can boast of 117 years of unbroken teaching in her family, and three nieces are still teaching, Mrs. Lilian Marsh at Cheltenham, Bessie at Sidcup, and Miss Stella Favell, B.Sc., at Kettering High School.

Mrs. Bailey is a member of the Park-road Baptist Church, Rushden, and before her marriage worshipped at the Irthlingborough Strict Baptist Church.

Mr. Bailey’s family were for many years well known business people in Warwickshire.

A family celebration was held on Sunday, and all the children were present that day, with the exception of Grace (Mrs. Chris Cook), who is now residing in Northern Rhodesia, and from whom a cable was received.
