Rushden Echo, 4th October 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Austin – Darlow

The marriage took place on Wednesday at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Higham Ferrers, by the Rev. C. Borman, of Mr. Percy Austin, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. William Austin, of 16 Cromwell-road, Rushden, to Miss Millicent Darlow, fourth daughter of Mrs. Bentley Allen, 19 High-street, Higham Ferrers. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. George Darlow, was charmingly gowned in navy blue crepe de chine, with champagne velour hat. Her jewellery consisted of a gold pendant and chain, the gift of the bridegroom. She was attended by three bridesmaids, viz., Miss May Darlow (sister of the bride), whose dress was of bottle green crepe de chine with stone-coloured velour hat; Miss Nellie Darlow (niece of the bride), and Miss Elsie Austin (niece of the bridegroom), both of whom wore pretty dresses of white embroidered voile, with brown beaver hats, trimmed with blue. All the bridesmaids wore gold brooches, the gifts of the bridegroom. The best man was Mr. Bert Odell (friend of the bridegroom). A reception at the bride’s home followed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Austin received a large number of useful wedding gifts including a silver teapot from the employees of Messrs Chapman Ltd., box manufacturers, Rushden, where the bridegroom was formerly employed, and a copper kettle and silver dessert spoons from the girls of Messrs. Thomas Sanders Ltd. (Westfield’s Works), curriers, Higham Ferrers, where the bride is employed.

The bridegroom, who is now discharged from the Colours, served for about two years with his Majesty’s Forces, being permanently discharged on July 29th this year, having lost his sight through a severe gun-shot wound in the face, received on March 21st 1918.
