A Millitary Wedding – The marriage took place at the Earls Barton Wesleyan Chapel on Monday of Miss Esther Elizabeth Loakes, daughter of Mrs. M. Loakes, of Victoria-street, Earls Barton, to Driver George Herbert Ambridge, R.F.A., son of Mr. George Ambridge, R.S.N.B.R., of Harborough-road, Rushden.  The bridegroom is on a short leave, and his father – a well-known member of the Rushden Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade – who is doing useful medical work at Portsmouth, was allowed a brief leave for the occasion.  The Rev. J. P. Hodgson, of Wellingborough, officiated.  The bride, who was given away by her eldest brother (Mr. Fred Loakes), wore a gown of white satin merve, with embroidered silk net basque and trimmings.  There were two bridesmaids – Miss Doris Loakes (sister of the bride) and Miss Daisy Pettit (the bride’s cousin), who were attired in white Jap silk dresses, with Leghorn hats and floral trimmings; each wore a locket and chain, the gift of the bridegroom.  Mr. F. Sheffield, the organist, played appropriate music, including the “Wedding March.”  In view of the fact that the bridegroom’s leave was only for a short term, there was no wedding tour, but after the ceremony the bridal party proceeded to Rushden, and a reception was held in the St. John Ambulance Headquarters in Station-road, 60 guests being present.  There was an enjoyable programme of music, dancing, etc.  The presents, which were numerous and costly, included a silver teapot from the firm of Messrs. Knight and Wagstaff, where the bride was employed.
