Mr and Mrs George Adams

The golden wedding anniversary celebrations of Mr and Mrs George Adams, of 62 Queen-street, Rushden, were held on Saturday, with a party in the Temperance Band Room, attended by about 60 guests.

Mr & Mrs G AdamsMr and Mrs Adams (nee Mary Ward) were married at St Mary’s Church on March 25th 1894, and have lived in Rushden ever since. As a boy and girl they came to the town from Stanwick and Irthlingborough respectively. Prior to marriage, Mrs Adams, one of a family of eleven, and now 69 years of age, did shoe work. Mr Adams (71), one of nine children worked for 21 years for the late Mr Joseph Knight and followed 22 years service to the Tecnic Boot Co. retiring from their employ six years ago, he was presented with a cheque from the directors and a gold watch from the staff. As a young man he showed keen interest in football, playing for Raunds and Irthlingborough teams. The couple have been in their present home for 40 years. There are seven children—three boys and four girls—and eight grandchildren. One son-in-law is on active service overseas and one granddaughter is in the A.T.S.

Many congratulations, cards and gifts were received and an iced cake was made by a daughter-in-law especially for Saturday’s party.
