A wedding of much interest to Rushden took place at the Farsley Parish Church, Leeds, on Monday, when Mr.Thomas Watson, only son of Mr. and Mrs.A.T.Watson, of Shirley-road, Rushden, married Miss Beatrice Margaret Knapton, daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs.H.Knapton, of Leeds.
The bridegroom was recently appointed assistant manager to Rushden and Higham Ferrers District Gas Co., under his father, who is the engineer and manager. He is a Methodist local preacher on the plan of the Higham Ferrers Circuit.
Monday’s ceremony was conducted by the Rev.Colin C.MacKay, Vicar of Farsley. Given away by her aunt, Miss Elizabeth [sic Lizzie] Knapton, the bride wore a dark blue costume, fur-trimmed, and hat to match, having a spray of pink carnations on her muff. The bridesmaid, Miss Peggy Shipley, of Barrow-in-Furness, a cousin of the bride, also wore a costume with floral spray, and carried a handbag given by the bridegroom.
Mr.Eric P.Williams, of Leeds, a friend of the bridegroom, was bestman, and Mr.Leslie Williams, also of Leeds, was the groomsman. Music was played on the organ.
After a reception at the bride’s home Mr. and Mrs.Watson left by train for an undisclosed destination. They are to reside at “Granton,” Park-avenue, Rushden.
