| SOLDIER’S WEDDING – The marriage took place on Saturday at St. Mary’s Church, Rushden, by the Rev. W. H. Pelham (Curate), of Private William Arthur Stock, second son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Stock, of Fitzwilliam-street, and Miss Edith Mabel Clayton, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Clayton, of Little-street. The bride, suitably robed in pink satin, with shoes to match, and a bridal veil with a wreath of orange blossom, carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums and Madonna lilies. She was given away by her father. Misses Hilda Clayton, sister of the bride, Elsie Stock, sister of the bridegroom, and Beatrice Pettit, cousin of the bridegroom, were the bridesmaids. The two former wore white silk dresses with black hats trimmed with white flowers. Miss Pettit was dressed in blue satin trimmed with pearls, and a black velvet hat trimmed with a flower to match the dress. The duties of best man were ably carried out by Mr. R. Clayton, brother of the bride. A reception was afterwards held at the bride’s home. The bridegroom is stationed at Colchester with the 6th Service Battalion of the Northants Territorials. He has served for four years in the 4th Battalion Northants Territorials and had just finished his time when the war broke out. He was called up soon afterwards. Private and Mrs. Stock were the recipients of many useful wedding gifts. |
