Entertaining their friends at the Queen Victoria Hotel on Tuesday night, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Adnitt, of Beaconsfield-terrace, Rushden, celebrated the completion of fifty years of happy married life.

Their wedding took place at Naseby Wesleyan Chapel on December 16th 1879. Mrs. Adnitt was Miss Millicent Haynes Everard, youngest daughter of Mr. David Everard, and lived in her girlhood at Broadmoor Farm, in the heart of the Naseby battlefield. Mr. Adnitt was one of the eleven children of Mr. William Adnitt, estate agent, of Naseby, and came to Rushden, where he has since resided continuously, three years before his marriage.

Mr. Adnitt and his wife’s brother, Mr. Will Everard, were both in the employ of Mr. Foskett, a Rushden carpenter. Then for some years they were in partnership in the building line, and in 1893 Mr. Adnitt established his present business as an architect. He has thus made many practical contributions to Rushden’s development since the days when it was a small village.

Mr. and Mrs. Adnitt both belong to the Rushden Park-road Baptist Church, and Mr. Adnitt is a Freemason with several honours. He is a past master of the Pemberton Lodge, an officer of the Pemberton Chapter, and Grand Deacon of the Provincial Grand Lodge (Northants and Hunts).

There are two children of the marriage. Mr. Cecil Adnitt is on wireless patrol service for the Imperial Airways, and is at present on the motor yacht “Imperia” at Suda Bay, Crete. Mrs. Woodman, the daughter, resides at Blisworth. There are two grandchildren, both sons of Mr. Cecil Adnitt.
