Around The Sub-Sections
Loan and Dividend Club

FORMED in 1933, the Loan and Dividend Club has served a very useful purpose over the years, and it is rather surprising to see that only 98 members take advantage of this section. It is more surprising to know that over £1,300 was paid out to its members at the end of last year.

When the club was first formed there were only 48 members, with the late Mr. T. Partridge as secretary. After running one year this office was taken over by Mr. G. Stokes, who still holds the position at the present time.

The section is affiliated to the Northamptonshire Loan and Dividend Association, and all the books are audited regularly by Mr. C. Dowsett and Mr. S. Richardson.

Other members of the management are as follows: President, Mr. E. Page; Cash Steward, Mr. G. Bodmin; Committee, Messrs. A. Rawlins, C. Underwood, C. Green, O. Upton and E. Tomlin.

Aged Members' and Children's Outing Fund

THROUGH the generosity of our members, it is possible to stage two very popular events each year—the Aged Members' Day and the Children's Outing. As many of you know, almost every week-end throughout the year various efforts are run to augment the fund, and we would like to thank you all for the wonderful way in which you "dip" into your pockets to support these worthy causes.

The aged members' first outing was in 1928, when they contributed part of the cost themselves. Later on, when the card doubles and raffles were started, the outing was put on the "all free" list and continues so to-day.

Every Whitsuntide approximately 100 aged members of the Club are given a wonderful day's outing, and, with your continued support, we hope to carry on this good work for many more years to come.

When the children were first provided for they used to gather on the lawn for sports, etc., followed by a tea.

How this has been improved upon will be seen on Saturday, July 14th, when, to wind up the Festival Week of ouf Club, round about 300 children will go to Clacton-on-Sea for a grand day at the seaside. Good luck, kiddies!

In concluding these notes we would like to record a special word of praise to the members who have given up many a Saturday evening to run raffles, etc., for this fund. Thank you all!

Sick Club

THIS Section of the Club came into existence in the old Windmill premises at the beginning of this century. At the present time membership stands at approximately 133. The committee think this number of members could be greatly improved upon considering the large membership of the Club, and would like to appeal to the younger members in particular to join this worthy section.

The Sick Club is run by the following officers: President, Mr. E. Settles; Vice-President, Mr. E. Page; Secretary, Mr. F. Sturgess: Sick Steward, Mr. H. Coles; Committee, Messrs. C. Green, T. Sharman, H. Peacock, E. Tomlin, W. Furness, W. Haddon.

Coal Club

ONE of the oldest Sections of the Club, the Coal Club was formed approximately 40 years ago. It has made great progress during the last three years, increasing its membership by 50 per cent, to a total of 170.

The Management Committee comprises: Mr. A. Rawlins (President), Mr. J Barford (Secretary), Messrs. G. Bodmin, G. Clark, W. Hankins, J. Baker and W. Wright (Committee).

Fanciers' Society

THE Fur and Feather Section of the Club is our youngest organisation. It was formed in 1947, and up to the present time they have put on six shows.

At the first show in 1947 it will be remembered by many members that after three days' hard work by the committee the great dav arrived—only to suffer a serious set-back owing to a strike of local 'bus workers which prevented a great many outsiders from visiting the show. Having "weathered" this first "storm" thev went ahead, and at one of their shows recorded over 1,000 entries, which still stands as a record.

Recentlv thev have suffered the loss of two worthy members in the late Messrs. Arthur Summers and F. Chapell.

Officials of this section are: President, C. Clarke; Chair¬man. V. Childs: Hon. Secretary, G. Martin: Committee, Messrs. F. Bigley. B. Beeby fsnrl, B. Beeby (jnr.), W. Robinson, G. Flowers. R. Elliott, G. Cooper. E. Chettle.

Membership is open to all affiliated members at a subscription of 2/- per annum.

Horticultural Society

WHEN the Clubs' Blind and Crippled Children's Fund was inaugurated, the above society was formed with the object of raising monies for the fund, by Messrs. A. Haddon, G. Settles and C. Compton.

In later years it was carried on by Messrs. T. Clark, A. Carrington and E. Page. During this period the show was worked up to the finest indoor exhibition of its kind in the county, and it was found that donations could be granted to other charities.

With the coming of World War II the committee carried on their work by running the Forces' Fund, under Mr. S. Smith and Mr. J. Foster.

A new committee was formed in 1946 under the chairmanship of Mr. W. S. Furness and Mr. J. Foster (secretary), with Mr. A. Fensome taking the position of secretary in 1948.

During the period from 1946 to 1951 over £350 has been made in grants to the Club's Benevolent Fund and various local charities.

Although it is impossible to record the names of all the men who have worked so hard for the society, special mention should be made of Mr. E. Tomkin, with 23 years' service, and Mr. E. Fensome, 21 years' service.

Windmill Boxing Promotions

AFTER the lapse during the World War II years, boxing started again in 1947. Successful shows were held during most of the season, although we realise that some were indifferent, but we always try to give our patrons the best possible.

The biggest headache to promoters is when, after the Posters, etc., have gone to press, substitutes have to be found for boxers who have " cried off." Still, taking things as a whole, the Windmill shows have held their own well as regards boxing in the county.

Windmill Promotions sustained a great loss recently in the passing of Mr. Alf. Longland. He gave a great many years of faithful service as Timekeeper to our organisation.

It is hoped to carry on with the promotions during the 1951-52 season.
