At the 51st annual meeting in the Town Band Club on Sunday, about 40 members and supporters attending, the bandmaster, Mr. J. O. Wildman said he was well satisfied with the band’s progress last year. Four members, Messrs. B. Nickerson, P. Williamson, J. Morris and R. Dickens were serving with the Forces, and on their return the band would be well up to strength.

Mr. Wildman also referred to the band’s contract to play at the Cobblers’ home matches. He complimented the librarian (Mr. J. Butler) and other officers.

Mr. A. J. Gibson (secretary) reported that bus fares cost £111 last year – an increase of £50. There was a profit of £65 on the year, and the collection taken at the Cobblers’ match on December 17th amounting to £20, was sent to Manfield Orthopaedic Hospital and provided Christmas presents for the patients.

Competitions

It was decided to compete in the second section of the Leicester contest on Easter Monday, when the test-piece will be “Coriolanus,” by Jenkins. The band will also compete in Section 3 at Nottingham on March 11th, with “Indian Summer,” a new work by Eric Ball, as the test-piece.

Towards the cost of the new uniforms, it was stated, the band needs another £200 and will rely largely on the football match collections.

The auditors, Messrs. F. York and H. Rice, the club committee and the steward and stewardess were thanked for their co-operation.
