Rushden Swimmers Are Ready - High Hopes of a Good Season

RUSHDEN swimmers prepared for the coming season at a general meeting following the Swimming Club's annual supper in the Central Cafe.

Mr. G. Morgan presided, in the absence of Mr. Arthur Sanders (president), from whom a telegram was read. Members and guests numbering 50 heard Mr. D. Minney, as secretary, relate the club's activities over the past year. He stated that the exceptional warm weather last summer had given them unique opportunities for swimming practices and to enrol a record membership.

Mr. Minney said that with the return of older members, from the Forces it was hoped to do better in forth comming team matches. He extended the club's congratulations to Miss Marion Elliott on winning the ladies' 200 yards breast stroke county (championship— the first member of the Rushden club to achieve county championship status.

The club had now secured a cup from Mr. B. W. Featherstonhaugh for the gent’s 100 yards free style club, championship

Making Progress

Mr. Morgan observed that the club was now making a progress after the war years, and this was further substantiated by the financial statement presented by the treasurer (Mr. D. Braybrook). The balance in hand had risen from £19 to £68 after donations, including 19 guineas to the Amateur Swimming Association Olympic Fund had been made.

Receipts totalled £174 expenditure £106. There was a record amount in subscriptions to date of £18, and for the first time a profit had been made on the annual gala.

In reply, Mr. Bennett congratulated the club on its enthusiasm and Miss Elliott on being its first county champion. Mr. Tingle added best wishes for the forthcoming season on behalf of the Kettering club, and Mr. Richards endorsed this, with his congratulations on the past season

Mr. D. A. Okins welcomed

members and The Northamptonshire County S.A. secretary, Mrs. Richards, and Mr. K. Tingle (representing the Kettering club).

Officials

Mr. Morgan moved a vote of thanks to the retiring officers, and elections were as follows: President, Mr Arthur Sanders; general secretary, Miss Marion Elliott: sports secretary, Mr. Reg Wheeler, treasurer, Mr D. Braybrook; committee, Messrs. G. Morgan. S. Cook. D. A. Okins. G. Wheeler and R. Elliott, with Mrs. Holt, Mrs. Morgan and Miss R. Johnson; club captain. Mr. Geoffrey Wheeler; club vice-captain Mr. R. Bollard; gent's swimming captain, Mr. Reg Wheeler; vice-captain, Mr. D. Button; ladies' swimming captain, Mrs. D. Bray brook; vice-captain, Mrs. Holt; polo captain, Mr. Reg Smith; vice-captain, Mr. Sam Cook.

A social concluded the evening, with Mr. Rod Barker in charge of the entertainment and Mr Gordon Meadows pianist.
