Our camp - towels were permanently on the fence to dry after we found a pool close by where we could swim

The cost of the camp site was 23 francs, and each of us put £30 into the provisions fund, which converted to 360 francs. At the end we only had to pay in another 3 francs each. On our arrival we purchased some rations: porridge, 24 eggs, 4 tins beans, 50lb sack of potatoes, bread, cooking fat, pepper and salt, 3 tins of steak, 24 peaches, a tin condensed milk, 2lbs margarine, 3 packs of vegetable soup, a tin of tomato puree, a kilo of spaghetti, milk and 2lbs of tomatoes. Maps, and Gaz used for the week were 26 francs.

Each took between £8 and £12 for spending money, which John Collins doled out as and when..........

The highlight of the week was a ride on a single seat cable lift right up into the mountains.
