Surprise Tribute

CUB SCOUT chief Peter Head was not prepared for the kind of surprise colleagues sprang to mark his retirement as assistant district commissioner.

Peter, 47, was taken completely unawares when they staged their own This Is Your Life tribute.

The red book, with pictures and reports of his service to the movement, was presented by district cub scout leader John Nichols, who hatched the plot together with Jackie Pettit, Rose Bass, Alan Ward and Stephen Lack.

Peter, of Wellingborough Road, Rushden, thought he was taking part in a training session for new leaders at the scout headquarters at Rushden, but instead walked into a full-scale party in his honour.

He has been the county assistant district commissioner for cub scouts since 1971; is on the county training team for leaders and has organised numerous special activities in the area — including the annual Bonfire Night firework display at Rushden Hall Park. He will still continue to help the movement and is to remain on its executive committee.

Cub section leaders and his friends in the scouting movement as a whole contributed towards a sherry decanter and set of inscribed glasses.
