Rushden’s New Pitch
Mr. C.W. Horrell Kicks Off at the Opening

No better football fixture than the local “Derby” between Rushden and the “Wasps” could have coincided with the opening of the splendid new pitch at the Rushden Town Sports’ Ground.

When the teams ran on to the arena last Saturday afternoon, two thousand or more spectators raised a ringing cheer. A small group of directors assembled on the half-way line and before the toss-up Mr. C.W. Horrell (chairman) opened the pitch by sending a hefty shot in the direction of the home players, who were enjoying the usual “joint-looseners”.

Wellingborough won the toss, and ,to the chagrin of the home crowd, scored the first goal, Stevenson scrambling the ball past Vaughan.

Our photo shows (left to right) Messrs. Frank Wilkins, W.G. Wilmott, A. Hodgkins (Rushden Captain), C.W. Horrell, (taking the kick) F.J. Pickering (Wellingborough captain), J. Tomlin, J.S. Denton and C. Claridge.
