Rushden Mission Band

The Making of the Tape, 1993

Abbotts Funeral Service (Rushden) kindly volunteered to sponsor The Mission Band to make a cassette tape recording. The Abbott family have been ardent supporters of the band since Jonathan and Beverley started to learn to play.

The recordings were done in the Mission Church by Andy Crawley. Two recording sessions were initially scheduled for Jan 17th and 24th, with the view to sell the completed tape at the Anniversary Concert on Thursday February 18th 1993 . However, as the band not only had the concert to prepare, performing different music meant an extra recording session was required.

Mrs Pat Abbott was interviewed by Paul Needle on BBC Radio Northampton just prior to the concert, to promote the tape.

The completed tape first went on sale at the Anniversary Concert on Thursday February 18th 1993 at a cost of £5.00. Originally 300 tapes were produced, these sold very quickly and a further 200 were made to meet the demand.
