Rushden Query Motor Club
1937-38

This cup was presented to Cyril W Gell who lived in Kimbolton. He may have been a founder member and certainly served on the committee during the late 30s early 40s. In 1940 he was Trials Secretary.

Tankard found in a cottage in Wales, together with an identical tankard for 1938, when Cyril Gell was a winner.
The trophy was for winning the Inter County Team Trial - also known as the 3 Counties Trophy. The ICTT was first run on October 1st 1931, and this Trophy was competed for almost every year until the club folded.

In 1931 88 took part, 14 being from Rushden. They started at 2.30pm from Olney, and the course was 60 miles.

Until around 1960 the event was for motor cycles and then cars took over.

The event was a time trial on public roads where the key thing was to maintain an accurate average speed over some 60 miles.

There were check points en route to check that the average speed was being maintained.

The main 3 Counties Trophy (or ICTT) was a team award with 3 in a team. Each member of the winning team would receive an award, a tankard as pictured.

Cyril Gell won the event in 1937 and in 1938.
