Rushden Echo, 5th September 1924, transcribed by Kay Collins

Physical Culture at Rushden
Gymnasium for St Peter’s – Promising Start

A meeting was held in St Peter’s Rooms on Friday evening last for the purpose of forming a gymnasium for all those who are interested and who attend St Peter’s Church. Mr C F Mackness presided, supported by Mr T W Elliott and Mr W Frisby. A large number of enthusiastic members of St Peter’s attended.

Mr W Frisby spoke of his experience in the Army of the value of a gymnasium, and said it would not be a bit of good starting a gymnasium at St Peter’s, and for them to attend the instruction classes for six or eight weeks in succession and then, through one thing or another to lose interest and to stop going. It was most essential that they all put their heart and soul into it, and they must not think that they could run before they could walk. [part article only]
