ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY — The adjourned meeting of this society was held on Wednesday evening in the National Schools, when there was a fair attendance of members. It will be remembered that at the last meeting the balance-sheet showed a deficit of £9 due to the treasurer, and it was decided that the collectors should wait on the members who had not paid their subscriptions, and that each member should also endeavour to contribute a share of the deficit. It was now reported that about £6 had been raised as the result of this effort. The president, vice-president, and other officers were re-elected, two members being added to the committee. The next meeting of the society will be held in April, when the arrangements will be made for the carrying out of the show for 1890.

Rushden Horticultural, Ornithological, & Canine Society.

This society held its second annual exhibition on Feast Monday and Tuesday at the National Schools. This is the second exhibition held by the society; it will be remembered that last year the society were very unfortunate owing to the weather, and therefore provision was made against this by holding the show indoors. This year the society have added classes for the canine species, and there were some very good exhibits in this class fey local dog fanciers. In this class, in addition to the ordinary prizes, were offered several specials, and the same remark applies to the poultry, pigeons, cage birds, and rabbit classes. The dogs were located in one of the class-rooms, as were also the poultry, while the floral and vegetable section of the exhibition were established in the large schoolroom. In the centre were stands of exhibits (not for competition) from Mr. Charles Watkin, of Wellingborough, Messrs. H., E., & W. Lack., of Wellingborough, and Mr. J. Seckington. These three stands the judges (Messrs. G. Hillburn and T. Perkins) wished to be specially mentioned, including as they did, some splendid specimens of ferns and flowering plants. The vegetable world was well represented, many of the exhibits being very fine, and amongst the fruit we noticed some splendid outdoor grapes, which were exhibited by Mr. Wheeler, of Church-street. Some splendid specimens of dahlias and marigolds were shown. Messrs. Yarde and Co. also had a choice selection on view. The arrangements for the show were carried out by the following committee:—Messrs. J. Seckington, J. Lewis, Wm. Clarke, C. Lewis, T. Lack, S. Robinson, Thomas Willmott, Joseph Darnell, J. Litchfield, sen., J. Litchfield, jun., F. Keywood, G Norman, T Clarke and A. Wills………
