Competition Winner

Leann with the Phantom On Sunday Afternoon - July 29th 2007 Rushden Museum was rewarded Leann Howell with her prize for the nearest answer in a “guess the mileage” competition held the previous week at the “Party in the Park” weekend. The main exhibition theme was John White and the shoe company he founded. This Phantom III built in 1948 was one of three Rolls Royce motor cars that John White had owned, and current owner, Mr Halgrove, took Leann for a ride around the town. The car, still in almost original condition, had the original leather luggage in the boot.
Note: NV 999 - recorded on the ‘Transport List 1948’ cost £6193. Originally silver, John White had it re-sprayed.
Jim Sharpe from Belfast was his chauffeur and A E Valentine was reserve chauffeur. Sold in 2007 by Auction in Belgium.

Mick Hollowell was also visiting the Museum on the same day with his own Rolls Royce.

Mick had driven the Phantom III regularly when he was chauffeur to John White. He recalled that all the company directors would line up their cars on Fridays to be cleaned and filled with petrol, if he was not required to chauffeur.
