Daphne Robinson, 2nd Rushden (St Mary's) Company, Northamptonshire. Daphne is a friendly young lady, who has coped extremely well with illness and surgery and whose cheerful disposition and outlook on life have been a tremendous encouragement both to patients and staff at the hospital to which she was admitted. She faced up to her operations and tackled her rehabilitation with extreme bravery, never complaining, always displaying a sense of humour and complete lack of self-pity. She is remarkably independent and unselfish, always thinking of others before herself. Daphne, aged 14, an enthusiastic member of the Movement from the age of 7, is considered a shining example.

The other five are Vicki Crook (16), now helping as a young leader, Lesley and Nicola Haverson — 15-year-old twins — Anne Tretfall and Sarah Whittington (13).

Between them the girls have gained more than 160 badges and given service with various organisations.

Stella and Susan have followed in the footsteps of sisters, Vicki (19) and Heather (17) who belonged to the same guide company, and won the award.
The girls were presented with their awards by their own guide leader, Mrs Marie Burton, who is also commissioner for Newton and District. The presentations took place during a parade service at St Mary's Church.

The sisters live in Kings Road, Rushden, and both are interested in sports. Stella enjoys swimming and hockey, and Susan plays badminton, tennis and swims.

Carolyn, who lives in Manor Road, plays badminton and tennis and is now working towards her Duke of Edinburgh Award.
