Festival 1996

The 1996 Rushden Festival is absolutely jam packed with delights. Every year we are convinced that we have produced our best ever and most exciting programme - this year we know that we have!!

Additional features for 1996 include a two day extravaganza ending with a fantastic late night international firework display, plus FREE lunchtime concerts, FREE street entertainment and event choices on most days of the Rushden Festival.

This year we've included the widest variety of popular entertainment events specifically for and by children. Watch out for Princess Pirate, and Tallifer a medieval adventurer who are just two mystical creations especially for children of all ages and who come to life during the Rushden Festival.

The festival boasts too, the finest big band music including from an orchestra which has toured with Frank Sinatra and Barbra Striesand, the finest in brass band music, thefinest recitals, the best drama and the most spectacular of outdoor occassions.

To celebrate Rushden Festival's rightful place as part of the 1996 British Festival of Music we will cater for virtually every musical taste from the lat¬est chart sounds to swing, classical and even country music.

AS WE WERE WEEKEND SPECTACULAR
Saturday and Sunday July 6/7
Standby For Non Stop Action!!!
Historical Task Force assembles in Hall Park

Throughout the weekend, Hall Park will be transformed into scenes from yesteryear. Romans, Vikings, Anglo Saxons, English Civil War, Second World War Servicemen and much more. We're assembling a veritable task force including many second world war vehicles.

Remember motormouth Stuart Hall and television's It's a Knockout? On Sunday we introduce some unusual and major events including GAME FOR A KNOCKOUT, the INTRACK ROADSHOW with BRIAN POOLE, THE ELECTRIX and an amazing aerial INTERNATIONAL FIREWORK SPECTACULAR.

Admission £2.50 Children FREE

Bring your sparklers, candles, cushions and rugs for a great day and night listening to the best of British music over the past decades and even dance al-fresco under a twilight Rushden sky. There's no formal seating and it's first come - first served. According to the BBC it will get dark between 10.15 and 10.30pm,and this will be the commencement time of the Firework Spectacular

One Way Journey at Rushden Railway Station

Rushden Railway Station, once the transport hub of local life will revert back once more to the sounds and sights of its late Victorian past, as the Historic Transport Society pulls out every stop to recreate an authentic period atmosphere. So it's all aboard for a nostalgic journey back in time, and a possible atmospheric brief encounter in the station buffet.

Even Oliver couldn't ask for more!!!

Dn Saturday July 6, the High Street becomes the focal point for many activities and the High Street will be cosed to vehicle traffic as we turn the venue over to majorettes, Victorian Fairground rides, morris dancers, choirs and much much more, there's goodies to be won over the weekend of festival fun. All the kiddie rides will be in Hall Park on Sunday and don't forget that there's a special Rushden Festival Fair which commences on Wednesday July 3 at Spencer Park.

Medieval dowry found in Hall Park

Our medieval Treasure Hunt led by that brave adventurer Tallifer starts in the High Street too, and leads on to Hall Park where the evil Baron Higham Ferrers has kid-knapped the fair Lady Rushden and hidden her dowry. It's finders keepers in this game so book your place on Tallifer's Treasure Hunt early. Some words of wisdom in this game; could the evil Baron Higham Ferrers have learned the secret of time travel, and bribed the Viking warriors to help him. Could King Charles I's army help Tallifer? Only you can unravel the mysteries of the day.

Treasure Hunt is aimed at family groups including children and adults. Unaccompanied children cannot be accepted for this reason, and there must be at least one adult in every party. There is no upward party size restriction. Charge adults £1.00 children under 12 free. Prizes cannot be exchanged for cash.

There's a host of other events throughout the weekend including aspects of the FESTIVAL OF SPORT and an exciting two day EXHIBITION OF MODELS at the Pemberton Centre which shoulldn't be missed.
