Unidentified newsclip, dated 1923 Joan and her grandmother

An Old-time Art
Revival of Pillow-lace  Making

Lacemaking by hand is not yet a lost art in the Rushden district. While the older generations still carry on with pillow and bobbins, the younger ones will in time produce their own experts. Mrs. Clark, aged 71, of 21 Brookfield-road, Rushden, is a skilled pillow-lace maker and has a keen pupil in six-year-old Joan Tomlin, her granddaughter, who is already becoming an adept.
