Allan R F Bathurst was born in 1918. He wore a calliper on his leg, so was unable to go into WWII, but served by taking his music to entertain the local servicemen at various camps and also in the local dance halls.

He started a dance band trio in 1940 and he played the piano, George Bayes was on the trumpet and Arthur Griggs on the drums. Later they formed a quartet with Arch Tompkins on Saxophone.
