Rushden Echo, 17th July 1931, transcribed by Kay Collins
Rushden Working Men's Club Show
Sweet Peas and Roses
High Quality Results in Extra Prizes

The annual sweet pea and rose show in connection with the Rushden Working Men's Club was held in the Harmonic Room at the club on Saturday.

Entries this season were approximately equivalent to those of last year, and numbered 120. Mr. H. Weedon, the judge spoke approvingly of the general exhibition, and his difficulty in judging several classes resulted in extra prizes being given.

The principal winners of the show were Messrs. J. Pratt (sweet peas), C. Whitworth (sweet peas), F. Short (roses) and W. Clarke (vegetables). Messrs. George Burch, of Peterborough, had arranged a special exhibition of roses, and a telegram received from Hull on Saturday stated that the firm had gained two first prizes carrying off cups and a medal for the best bloom of the show at a large Hull exhibition.

Gifts of flowers and vegetables had been received by the show organisers and were afterwards sold for the benefit of the Working Men’s Club Benevolent Fund.

The exhibition arrangements were made by Mr H Bazeley (show secretary), and the show committee.
