Rushden Echo, 2nd September 1910, transcribed by Peter Brown
W.M.C. Union
Ambulance Contest at Rushden
Higham Ferrers and Rushden Clubmen Compete

An ambulance competition, under the auspices of the Northants branch of the W.M.C. Union, was held on Saturday on the lawn of the Athletic Club, Rushden. The competition was open to club ambulance teams.

Four squads entered, but only three competed, viz., Rushden Athletic No. 1 (instructor Mr. H. Dixon), Rushden Athletic No. 2 (Mr. G Wills), and Higham Band (Mr. A. Church). Irthlingborough did not put in an appearance. The judge was Dr. Baxter, of Wollaston.

The first case for squad treatment was of a complicated nature, and included compound fracture of the skull, fractured humorus, and other injuries. This was followed by individual bandaging for stopping haemorrhage, etc, Several questions were also submitted.

Giving his awards, Dr. Baxter said the competition had been most interesting, and he congratulated all who had taken part. The case chosen was a most rare and complicated one, but was one he had to deal with in reality not long ago.

The prizes on points were awarded as follow: First (£2/2/0), Higham Town Band; second (£1/1/0), Rushden Athletic No. 1.

Winning team: A. Church (sergt), T. Hurst, W. Fletton, R. Driver, and A. Thompson.
