Railway Station - '40s Weekend

On October 20th & 21st 2007 Rushden Historical Transport Society held a '40s weekend. The weather was perfect, blue sky and sunshine, and the turnout was good. Poppies for Remembrance Day were on sale and donations were to be divided between the British Legion and the Naval Association. Visitors were encouraged to turn up in 1940's dress and several were in military uniforms. Entertainment was by "The Spitfires" - two sisters and friend - who dressed in fashions of those days and ran a short fashion show, and who also sang songs from the '40s. The station members did a superb job in setting the scene with old vehicles and they set a display of air raid memorabillia and also dug a hole to lay an "unexploded bomb" setting. The bar was open for refreshment and the dish of the day was bangers and mash. A good time was had by all.
