St John Ambulance Parades

Ambulance Parade at Rushden - Service at The Baptist Church

The annual parade in connection with the Rushden Division St John Ambulance Corps was held on Sunday.

A Procession was formed at Mr R Marriott’s field, among those taking part being the Mission Silver band, the Rushden Fire Brigade (under captain Fred Knight, JP and Officers J T Colson and G R Turner), Rushden Nursing Sisters (Supt Miss Margetts), Wellingborough Nursing Sisters (Supt Miss Smith), Ambulance detachments from Rushden (Supt T Swindall), Wellingborough (Chief Supt Nicholson), Irthlingborough (Supt Eatly and second officer Bugby), Higham (Supt A O Groome), Irchester, Wollaston and Bozeat, the Boy Life Brigades of Rushden and Wellingborough (under Captain C A K Green and Lieut Selwood), and the Rushden Boy Scouts (under Scout Master F E Preston).

The band led the way to the Park Road Baptist Church, where an able and appropriate address was given by the Rev R H Colwell (Wesleyan Minister), and the choir, under the conductorship of Mr Joseph Farey, sang the anthems “As pants the heart” and “The wilderness.” Mr G Farey presided at the organ.

After the service the procession was re-formed and the band led the way to the College Street Schools, where the processionists were dismissed. The Rushden officers and men kindly entertained the visitors to tea.
