Keen shots are brushing up their skills at a new shooting club.

About 25 eagle-eyed shooters turn up every Monday at Rushden Sports Centre to practise their shots on a six metre range.

Assistant leisure officer Mike Ord said members travelled from Raunds, Ringstead and Irchester to the club and paid £1.50 for a night's entertainment.

The club has grown in membership and popularity since it opened at the start of the year.

Experienced marksmen and novices turn up and the centre is keen to support the venture.

Mr Ord said: "We like to set up groups such as the shooting club.

"Once they are up and running successfully members often take them over themselves and use the centre as a base.

"This way we can give groups the best possible start withi all the facilities provided by us."

Mr Ord said he was pleased with the favourable reaction to the club and said both pistols and air rifles were used.
