Graham Snarey, 2012
Rushden United Cricket Club
Formed in the mid 1950’s as an off shoot of the football club of the same name, the club initially played in the Wellingborough and District League and then the Kettering League.

The club originally played its home games on Jubilee Park, and then Spencer Park, but because of failing facilities and lack of maintenance the club moved their home games to various venues in Bedford.

The club joined the Bedford and District League during the 1960’s and enjoyed many seasons within that League, which consisted of up to seven divisions, with two teams in each division being promoted or relegated each season allowing numerous promotion and relegation matches.

The club basically existed with a core of 13-15 regular players utilising ‘fill-in’ players during holiday periods, but all played their part in making the club the success it was. In fact between 1972 and 2009 nearly 200 players, the vast majority from the Rushden area, played for the club.

Some of the original players of the team in the 1950’s included Dave Pinnock, Arthur (Joe) Hullatt, Raymond O’Dell, Brian Harmer, Alan Freeman, Derek (Chas) Allan, Secretary Bill Bayes, and the regular umpire Bob Carter.

Upon Bill Bayes' retirement from the role of Secretary, the position was taken on by John Denton in 1970 with Graham Snarey as Treasurer. They both subsequently took on the roles of captain and vice captain respectively, and held them for many years. The role of captain being taken over eventually by John’s son Steven.

John and Steve Denton were instrumental in maintaining a very comprehensive set of statistics, from 1972 onwards. Records before then were unfortunately lost when the kit and all the scorebooks were destroyed in a fire where they were being stored over winter.

Due to difficulties in raising teams as players got older and new regular players could not easily be found the club finally folded in 2009.
