Rushden Town Sports Club

Northampton Mercury, May June 22nd 1900, transcribed by Susan Manton

Rushden Football Club Sports—The annual sports on behalf of the Rushden Town Football took place on the Newton Road Ground at Rushden on Saturday afternoon. Delightful weather favoured the gathering and there was a capital attendance. The averages were about up to the averages of previous years, although there was marked falling off compared with last year, when the sports in array were a record. The number this year was about 100 and in every event, even the half mile handicap, trials were run. Rushden Temperance Band, under the conductorship of Mr. R. Baker, was in attendance and rendered a delightful programme of music during the afternoon and played for dancing in the evening.

Rushden Echo & Argus, 27th February 1931, transcribed by Kay Collins

The funds of the Rushden Town Sports Club (Cricket Section) benefit as the result of an invitation dance held at the Co-operative Hall on Tuesday. The success of the event owed much to the initiative of Mr. A. Gramshaw and Mr. H. V. Ingham, the latter acting as M.C. Music was played for five hours by the Revellers Dance Band, and refreshments were served by the lady helpers of the club. A card dance was won by Miss Knight and Mr. F. E. Brown, a Cenderella Valeta by Mr. and Mrs. Percival, and a corresponding number competition by Mr. T. H. Denton, who kindly returned his prize, a box of chocolates, to be sold by auction.
