Rushden Town’s record in the premier cup competition the English Football Association Cup is not very distinguished as can be seen from the results below. The club never reached the first round proper when the clubs from the lower leagues of the Football league join the competition. The club first entered the competition in 1897 and were drawn away to play at Hucknall St Johns which is situated on the outskirts of the city of Nottingham, where they were beaten 2-1. This was Hucknall's only season in the F.A. Cup and they lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the next round
The best season the competition was in 1959-60 when they reached the fourth qualifying round beating Stamford, local rivals Wellingborough Town 2-0 at the Dog and Duck, Corby Town after a replay and finally being defeated in North London at Amateur team Enfield in the fourth qualifying round at their old ground on the A10 at Southbury Road.
Enfield went on to beat Headington United (now Oxford United) before losing 5-1 at Bournemouth (then Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic) in round 2.
Enfield went on to win the F.A. Amateur Cup in 1967 beating Cooke Town 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.
The clubs biggest victory was 8-0 against Histon Town in 1967, and their biggest defeat at home to Peterborough United by 9 goals to 1 in 1945.
