Rushden & District Sunday Football League

The Rushden & District Sunday League was formed in May 1968 with the clubs who were to be involved meeting at the Queen Victoria Hotel in the town. The Management Committee had been formed the week before at a meeting held at the same venue. The first Officers of the league were mainly from Rushden and were elected at the meeting.

The Rushden based Officers elected at the meeting were:-

President Fred Oatridge (Proprietor of the Queen Victoria Hotel 1968-1974)

Referees Secretary. Ken Johnson (1968 -972)

Registration Secretary. Bill Oatridge (1968-1972)

Treasurer. Fred Oatridge (1968-1969)

Chairman. Bernard Neville (1968-1974 and he was the appointed President until 1983)

The clubs who had been playing friendlies until this meeting were arranged into two divisions. United Trades managed by the legendry Ben Glenn were the first champions with Higham Ferrers based The Griffin being Runners up. Trades won the league again in season 1969/70 and at the time of writing no other Rushden team has won the first division championship.

The Senior Knock-out was won by Rushden St. Peter's in 2001/02 beating Irthlingborough Conservative Club in the final. United Trades were runners up in 1969/70 losing in the final to Windsor United from Wellingborough. Again at the time of writing St. Peter's are the only Rushden based club to have won the Senior Knock-out.

In the Junior Knock out Cup Rushden King Edward have won the trophy twice in consecutive years beating Woodford Stars in 1991/92 and Yardley Hastings in 1992/93.
