The Rushden Echo, July 1907, transcribed by Greville Watson

A curious incident happened on Saturday during the cricket match, Rushden Wesleyans v Walgrave. J Shortland was batting when a ball took off one of his bails, and sent it flying into the air. The bail twisted round and fell into exactly the same place on the wicket, the result being, of course, that he was not out, and after this he made nine runs.
