This is quite an attractive nine hole course , situated about 1 ½ miles from Higham Ferrers, on the main Kimbolton Road.
It was founded in 1919 by a few members of the old Stanwick Golf Club after that Club became extinct during the 1914-18 War.
These enthusiastic Founder Members, including such names well known in this district as A.H. Sartoris, G.S. Mason, Robert Marriott, F.L. Heygate, C. Claridge, J.S. Denton and H.R. Patenall, laid the foundation of this Club by renting the present land.
Tom Williamson of Nottingham was engaged to lay out the course, which was completed and opened in the Spring of 1920.
The teething difficulties were perhaps many in the first few years, but by sheer determination and hard work, the enrolment of new members and the purchase of modern equipment, the Club then became well established.
Again during World War II the Club suffered to some extent, but thanks to several enthusiasts and hard work, the old equipment has been completely replaced by the latest mechanised types, and the Club is enjoying a period of prosperity almost unequalled in its 30 years history.
Standing in completely rural surroundings there are some fine views ro be obtained, including Chelveston Church which stands high in the well wooded countryside only a few hundred yards away. One of the chief features of the course is the stream, bordered with oaks, pines and other fine old trees, and it traverses the whole course and makes an ideal natural hazard.
The course has been altered from its original layout also lengthened, now measures 6103 yards, and with a S.S.S. of 73 is not by any means what would be considered easy.
The competition spirit is high amongst members who number 200 and there are 4 Club Trophies for Men, 3 for the Ladies and 4 for mixed competitions.
