The Story of our Pantomime

Adventurer Dick Whittington arrives in London with a shilling and his faithful cat, Tommy. Armed with little except ambition, he sets out to make his fortune.

Thanks to the pleas of the beautiful Alice, Fitzwarren employs Dick in his local general stores as an apprentice. Unfortunately the evil King Rat casts a spell and under its influence Sara, Jack, the ship's captain and the mate place marked money in Dick's purse. Dick is branded as a thief by his friends, that is with the exception of Alice. Shunned by their friends, penniless and broken-hearted, Dick and Tommy leave London. When all seems lost the good Fairy takes a hand. Dick hears the bells of London and they seem to chime, "Turn again Dick Whittington, Lord Mayor of London. . . ."

Dick does return and after a series of adventures - including a visit to Davy Jones' locker - he proves his innocence and, thanks to Tommy, who kills King Rat in a fight to the death, he makes his fortune. The happy ever after ending is completed when Dick wins the hand of the beautiful Alice. M.C.

Another op'ning, another show

Obituary

Our joy at having produced our third successful pantomime was turned to sorrow at the death of our treasurer Walter Anker. He was greatly liked and respected by everyone who knew him and nowhere was this greater than in the R.A.T.S. where he did great work, not only as treasurer, but in so many ways.

It is also with deep regret that we heard of the death of George Mayes who was a great help back stage and always very popular : also Eric Sibley who so cheerfully and ably acted as a steward for our shows.

Our sympathy goes to all the loved ones they have left behind.
