There was great rejoicing in the land of Somnia at the birth of a little princess.  The christening was a happy day until a wicked fairy arrived.  She cursed the princess that on her eighteenth birthday she would prick her finger and die.  Luckily a little fairy was able to change the curse; the princess would sleep until a handsome prince awakened her with a kiss.

For many years the princess lived happily, growing in grace and charm; she met a handsome prince and had fallen in love.  But at her coming of age party she wandered off; the prince and some of the courtiers went out to search for her but she had not left the castle.  She wandered into a secluded room where an old lady was spinning, intrigued she had to try.  Catastrophe!  She pricked her finger on the wheel and soon she and all those in the castle fell into a deep sleep.

The legend of her beauty spread far and wide and all attempts to find her were thwarted by a magic wood which surrounded the castle.  One day nearly a hundred years later, a brave young prince heard the story and he vowed to find the beautiful princess.  For many months he travelled searching for the castle.  Finally he penetrated the barrier and wakened the princess with a kiss.

Again there was rejoicing in the land of Somnia as the people prepared for a royal wedding.

Arnold Peters RATS Sleeping Beauty 1983
Arnold Peters
We welcome you all to ‘Sleeping Beauty’ whether this is your first visit to one of our shows, or you are old friends.
We are delighted to welcome again as our producer Arnold Peters often heard in ‘The Archers’ as Jack Wooley.  A member of the BBC Drama Repertory Company Arnold has a wide experience of radio and television, as well as in production.
We also welcome again David Gomm our Musical Director, Geof Gilpin our Chorus master and Robina Cooper our Choreographer.  We are sure you will appreciate all their hard work as you laugh at the comedy, listen to the music and watch the dancing.
It is not just those you see who work so hard to put on a successful show.  There are many more, unseen we trust, back stage who produce the beautiful costumes, the colourful scenes and the striking effects.
However without you, our audience, the show and all the work that goes to make it a success would not be worthwhile; so we welcome you all.
We trust you will not be a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ but will enjoy the show and if you do so, please tell your friends.
Ben C.
