'PUSS IN BOOTS' - 1988

Produced by
PAT CATLIN

THE RITZ, RUSHDEN
JANUARY, 1988
Chairman's Message

It doesn’t seem a year since I was welcoming you to our 25th Anniversary pantomime, yet here I am extending to you just as warm a welcome to our 26th panto Puss in Boots.
For a whole generation the R.A.T.S. have presented traditional pantomimes at the Ritz and with Puss in Boots we continue that tradition.  Only a few of us can now remember the first pantomime; the joy of getting something new to fruition, of seeing the audience awaiting our show for the first time; the butterflies as the orchestra started to play the overture.  But many more have experienced the same feelings over the years.  Many have gone on to do greater things on the stage a situation which continues to this day.
The R.A.T.S. still give many their first smell of the grease paint and enjoyment to many others.
We trust you all enjoy Puss in Boots and if you would like to join the R.A.T.S. please don’t be afraid to contact our secretary.

Puss in Boots

Once upon a time there lived a miller who had three sons.  When he died he left one of his sons all his money, to another he left the mill and to the youngest, Colin his favourite, he left only the mill cat.  However the cat is given a pair of magic boots which enable it to talk.  Colin falls in love with the Princess Melissa.  The crafty cat sees to the introductions to royalty and by killing the ogre which has been devastating the land helps Colin to become The Marquis of Carabas.  So Colin can marry the Princess Melissa and all live happily ever after.

Cast RATS Puss in Boots 1988

It was with sadness we heard of the death of Jean Wilbur.  For many years Jean was a member of our wardrobe staff making many colourful costumes.  She was always willing to help behind the scenes.  Our sympathy goes to all her family.
