RUSHDEN AMATEUR THEATRICAL SOCIETY
presents
JACK and the
BEANSTALK
A glance at our programme will show you there have been a few changes in the society this year. For the first time a member of the R.A.T.S. is our producer, Christine Norman.
In our first show Christine was one of the dancing troupe and apart for a period when she was on the professional stage she has been dancing or taking leading parts with us ever since.
You may have seen our new Musical Director, Elizabeth McLaughlan, in the R.A.T.S. chorus line some years ago. I should like to welcome Christine and Elizabeth in their new positions together with Robina who is our Ballet Mistress once again.
I should also like to pay tribute to those who run the R.A.T.S. youth group; The New Experience. A number of this group have graduated to the senior team this year and I welcome them.
Finally I should like to thank all those whose untiring effort and hard work has made this pantomime possible and all of you for your continued support.
I trust you enjoy Jack and the Beanstalk.

The Story of Jack and the Beanstalk |
Long ago in Merryland lived a poor widow, Dame Durden, with her two sons Jack and Simon. Merryland was oppressed by a wicked Giant. The worthy Squire offered the hand of his daughter Angelina to the one who could rid the land of the giant. Jack decided that he would kill the giant, but how to reach him?
Pressed by the Bailiff and his henchmen Dame Durden was forced to sell their only possession Buttercup the Cow. Unfortunately the bag of gold that Jack got for Buttercup turned out to be a bag of beans. In a temper Dame Durden threw them out of the window where, as if by magic, they grew and grew until they reached Giantland. Up the beanstalk climbed Jack and after many adventures he met the giant and killed him.
Thus Jack won the hand of the fair Angelina; the Dame retrieved Buttercup and they all lived happily ever after.
