Once again, we have many new faces in the production team this year and consider ourselves most fortunate to have retained the services of Verne Morgan, producer; Oswald Lawrence, musical director; Joan Hart, who assists him and trained the chorus; also Beryl Rowe who trains the dancers. We extend to all of them a very hearty welcome. We have enjoyed working with them throughout rehearsals again and we are sure you will enjoy the results of their hard work and skill.
Welcome to all of you and thank you for your support. Enjoy yourselves and we look forward to welcoming you again to our 1969 show.

Story
|
We doubt very much if there is a member of our audience this evening who does not know the story line of ‘Cinderella’, probably the most popular of all traditional pantomimes. Our production of this charming fairy story is an interpretation of the traditional tale written by Mr Verne Morgan, our professional producer.
Why has ‘Cinderella’ maintained its popularity over the years, unlike fashions and music which change almost as frequently as the British climate? The answer to that is easy, it has all the magic ingredients for success.
Most of us, at one time or another, have day dreamed of a ‘Cinderella’ type situation, even if we have disguised it in a more sophisticated blanket.
You know the story, from rags to riches, back to rags and the inevitable, but oh so essential, time honoured ending of all good pantomimes . . . ‘and they all lived happily ever after’.
Our production has the beautiful little kitchen girl who eventually triumphs and marries her Prince Charming; the wicked, but amusing, ugly sisters; the magic fairy and the comedy relief from Buttons and the brokers men.
But no ‘Cinderella’ production would be complete without the ballroom scene and the Cinderella coach and horses, and the RATS take pride in their professional approach to their annual Christmas pantomime productions
This year the RATS searched the country looking for two ponies to pull the Cinderella coach. At first it was feared the foot and mouth epidemic would foil their attempts, but eventually two ideal ponies were found in Warwickshire
Tonight you will see the result of that search and we are confident you will leave the theatre this evening having enjoyed our show as much as we have enjoyed entertaining you.

Our producer, Verne Morgan, has also written the pantomime, and is a well-known producer-actor, author and composer. Apart from pantomime, he has published several books and short stories as well as having many one act plays to his credit. He started writing at the age of seven, appeared in print for the first time at the age of twelve, and at fifteen was writing and singing his own songs as a professional comedian. As an actor he has appeared in a large number of West End successes, as well as many films and television plays. He first began producing musicals at the ripe old age of nineteen, and for the past fifteen years has interspersed the producing of amateur shows with his professional work. He is a pantomime specialist and for a great number of years was one of the best-know pantomime Dames on the professional stage. Since producing our last pantomime he has appeared on television on the continent and this year was adjudicator at the Waterford Festival of Dramatic art.
