Charter Trains from Wellingborough Station

2nd October 1977
to York

Train ticket, W'boro to York

We left Wellingborough Station at 8.00am to York for 11.00am; returning from York at 18.40 and arrived back in Wellingborough at 21.35 hrs.

Cost of the train with 600 seats: £1,300.
Car parking at Wellingborough Station: 25p.

Party: 226 Adults, 135 Children, 235 Cubs and 76 Leaders.  Total 672.
Children sitting 3 to a double seat – 594 train seats used.

Two packed meals were taken.
Pocket money not to exceed £1 each.

We visited the National Railway Museum, York Minster and York Museum, having issued our own tickets for this latter one – with a reduced party rate of – 103 adults at 40p and 288 child at 20p.

Amounts charged: Adults £3.20, Children £2.20. Leaders free.

Pennants were issued to all children – 460 at cost of 10p each.
A raffle raised £36.28

Net surplus to the District Cubs: £136.84.

1st October 1978 (Sunday)
to Southampton and Portsmouth

Train ticket, Wboro to Southampton

We left Wellingborough Station at 6.45am.

Cost of the train with 650 seats, made up of ten by 64-seat carriages and a brake wagon with 24 seats: £1,350.

The Party comprised: 272 Adults, 165 Children, 197 Cubs and 72 Leaders.  Total 706.

On arrival at Southampton we had a river cruise from Southampton to Southsea to view the docks and the QE2.
Two boats were hired – one for Cubs and one for parents and friends.
Boats: 706 people at 90p.

A walk to the Royal Naval Dockyard, museum and a visit to HMS Victory.

Then to Portsmouth Harbour Station for the return to Wellingborough.

Amounts charged: Adults £4.00, Children and Cubs £3.00.  Leaders free.

Net surplus to the District Cubs: £127.40.
