Rushden Echo, 27th September 1901, transcribed by Greville Watson
A Bathing Place at Last for Rushden and Higham Ferrers

After a long delay caused by the necessary negotiations with Mr Fitzwilliam a site for a bathing-place for Rushden and Higham Ferrers has at last been selected. A meeting of the joint committee of the Higham Ferrers Town Council and the Rushden Urban Council was held last night at the Wharf to choose the site. Higham was represented by the Mayor (Ald T Patenall), and the ex-Mayor (Mr C S R Palmer). From Rushden, there were present Mr Geo Denton (chairman of the Urban Council), Mr Fred Knight, Mr T Swindall, Mr W B Madin, and Mr G S Mason. The committee, who, as we have previously reported, had received a generous offer from Mr Fitzwilliam, chose as the site the present bathing-place by the side of the Anchor Inn, and Mr Madin has been asked to prepare plans and an estimate of the cost. It is impossible, of course, at this time to say when the necessary work will be put in hand to fit the bathing-place for its purpose, but there is no doubt that when the open-air bathing weather sets in next year the bathing-place will be ready.
