An Appeal
by the Chairman of the Rushden Urban District Council (A. Allebone, Esq., J.P., C.C.) on behalf of the Prince of Wales' Jubilee Appeal in aid of the Youth of Britain :
The purpose of this appeal in His Royal Highness's own words is :
"To establish a permanent memorial by the creation of a Fund or Trust to be known as the King George's Jubilee Trust, whose work will be, not to engage in creating new Juvenile organisations but to help to extend in the localities throughout Great Britain, the work and activities of the existing and proved voluntary organisations. How most of our great juvenile organisations, such as the Boy Scouts, the Girl Guides, the Boys Brigades and Clubs, the Y.M.C.A., only to mention a few of them, have proved their worth over a period of years by helping boys and girls to grow up with the ideas and ideals that make a nation great, is well known to all. There is no sadder sight in the world than aimless and dispirited youth, on the other hand, there is no more heartening sight than children who have been helped by some voluntary juvenile organisation which gives them amusement as well as physical and mental training. In some places these voluntary organisations are able to get adequate financial support but in many districts the extreme poverty of the community not only prevents much activity but makes membership for many children impossible without financial aid from some national source. That is where King George's Jubilee Trust can help these organisations to increase facilities for physical recreation and games, for the practice of hobbies, the pursuit of interests, and the cultivation of abilities which in so many children only await their outlet."
The foregoing facts will, I feel, commend this appeal for your generous support. Any amount, however large or small, from pennies to pounds, I shall be grateful to accept on behalf of this worthy cause. All remittances should be addressed to me, marked "Prince of Wales' Jubilee Appeal."
A. ALLEBONE. Chairman of the Rushden Urban District Council and of the Local Jubilee Celebrations General Committee.
A Street Collection in aid of the above Appeal will be made on Jubilee Day. Please Give Generously !
